DENS DERBY CONFIRMED

Dundee will host Dundee United in the city's first derby match in almost three years. The match at Dens Park will take place on Saturday 14 July 2012 at 3pm.

The match will be all ticket and prices have been set at only £12 for adults and £6 for concessions. All proceeds from the game will be shared on an equal basis as both clubs look to strengthen the respective managers' budgets in advance of the new season.

Dundee Manager Barry Smith said "Like both sets of fans, this is a fixture that my players and I will relish the prospect of. I had the pleasure of playing in a few Dundee derbies and there is nothing better than the atmosphere created by a big crowd at these games.

"For many of my players, it will be the first time they have had the opportunity to take part in a game like this, and the more supporters that attend will help make the occasion all the more special, whilst also, and very importantly, giving me extra funds to strengthen the squad.

"Although the game itself will come early in to our pre season schedule, I'm sure testing ourselves against an SPL side will stand us in good stead for the season ahead."

Dundee United Manager Peter Houston said "It is important for us that we prepare for the new season in the correct manner and a derby match against Dundee certainly fits the bill. I have been promised all proceeds from our split to finance my pre season plans and having the backing of supporters for this game will ensure we can prepare in the correct manner for our upcoming European adventure.

"Now this game has been confirmed we will be able to head to Europe for our pre season camp. I'm sure, also, that our fans will want to renew rivalries with our neighbours and attempt to secure the bragging rights going into the upcoming campaign."

Dundee United rounded off another tremendous season with three points in an entertaining match full of chances.

It was another thoroughly convincing display by a group of players that have been Scotland's form side for much of the last four months.

The goals came from familiar sources, with Johnny Russell and Jon Daly both getting their names on the score sheet to send the 900 Arabs home happy.

With the main issues of the season resolved and both sides having secured European qualification, the match provided an opportunity for both clubs to say goodbye to some loyal servants that are likely to move on during the summer.

United boss Peter Houston brought in 2010 cup winner Danny Swanson for what was expected to be his final outing in United colours, while there were also starts for three other players who were key parts of that cup squad whose contracts are about to expire: Paul Dixon, Scott Robertson and Dusan Pernis.

Garry Kenneth missed his chance for a final farewell through injury, while the absence of fellow centre half Gavin Gunning meant that United captain and top scorer Jon Daly switched to the heart of the defence. Robbie Neilson also missed out, with his place taken by Keith Watson, while Stuart Armstrong replaced Willo Flood in midfield and Johnny Russell came in for Gary Mackay-Steven.

While there was a downpour of beach balls at kick off as the two sides celebrated their European qualification, it was far from continental weather at Fir Park, which was buffeted by wind and freezing drizzle.

With little happening on the pitch, the fifth minute gave Motherwell's fans the chance to enjoy a minute's applause for popular number five Stephen Craigan, playing his last match after 360 appearances for the club.

Soon after, however, the game burst into life as United went ahead. Young midfielder Stuart Armstrong broke strolled through on goal from the left, only for his powerful shot from an angle to be saved by Darren Randolph. The ball landed at the feet of Russell, whose first effort was tipped onto the bar by the Irish keeper only for it to land kindly for the young striker to score at the second attempt.

The flow of the game was interrupted again when Stevie Hammell fell awkwardly on the right flank after a tussle with Swanson and, after a lengthy delay, had to be stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious injury.

United almost went two ahead with 20 minutes on the clock, when Russell did brilliantly to speed past his marker on the right and play in an inviting ball across the face of goal. With no-one attacking the ball from a central position, it arrived at John Rankin, who squeezed in a shot from a difficult angle that smacked off the post.

The game had begun to open up and powerful running from Chris Humhrey earned the home side a corner off Paul Dixon. After a few attempted clearances following the Tom Hateley corner, Nicky Law fired in a long range drive that Pernis had to parry wide. Hateley's delivery was causing problems and he swung in a fantastic free kick from the right that Craigan headed over.

Both sides were relaxed with little at stake and playing some tidy passing movements that defied the blustery conditions, but it was some traditional pacy wing player by Humphrey that nearly brought Motherwell level as the wide player raced past Daly and played a fine ball across goal that nobody could get a touch to.

Humphrey was proving a real threat and another fantastic cross from the right landed at the feet of Motherwell top scorer Michael Higdon, only for the big striker to shoot over from close range.

When United won a free kick about 30 yards out on the right, Paul Dixon immediately raced over to take it sensing his opportunity for a goal to mark his last game. He so nearly got it, as he drilled in a spectacular effort that glanced off the upper side of the crossbar.

At the other end, the home side again came close as the interval approached, when Higdon headed just wide after another fine ball from the right, this time from a Hateley cross from deep.

As the half entered injury time, United had one last attempt as Richie Ryan curled a dangerous free kick just over after Swanson was shoved over by Keith Lasley.

Half time: Motherwell 0 United 1

An entertaining half, with United having the better attempts at goal but the home side looking very dangerous on the right flank.

Motherwell started the second half brightly, with Steve Jennings evading a couple of challenges before a long range effort sailed harmlessly over Pernis' goal. Pernis then had to be alert to punch clear a Hateley cross from the right.

Danny Swanson appeared fortunate to stay on the park almost 10 minutes into the second half, as he picked up a booking for a late challenge on the halfway line then, within 60 seconds, pulled down a home player on the edge of the United area. It proved to be a disappointing way to end what may be his last match in United colours, as he then made way for Ryan Dow as Peter Houston chose to ensure he didn't pick up a red card. The youngster made an imact immediately as he broke on the right and carefully curved an effort from the edge of the box that went just over.

Dow was causing a nuisance and he earned a corner off Clancy after some good work on the right. From the corner, which landed wide on the left, Rankin played a ball into Russell who did brilliant to clip the ball onto Daly with his heel, with the skipper's powerful header being punched over by Randolph.

United were enjoying a good spell and Armstrong was next to try for goal, as his long-range effort took a deflection then landed in Randolph's arms. Rankin then played a ball to the byline that Dixon did well to reach. His centre was then met by Dow, whose effort zipped narrowly past the post.

Stuart McCall tried to spice up his side with the introduction of the skilful Henrik Ojamaa, and he immediately earned his side the first of a flurry of corners that eventually led to a Craigan effort from the edge of the box spinning just wide.

Not to be outdone, Houston brought on young player of the year nominee Gary Mackay-Steven for Stuart Armstrong, which put his side back on the front foot and Rankin tried a long range effort that landed just at the wrong side of Randolph's post. Scott Robertson then fired a great opportunity over the bar as the chances continued.

With eight minutes to go, United stormed into a two goal lead when Dow played in Robertson pm the right and his cutback found its way through to Daly at the far post, who slotted home his 19th league goal of a remarkable season. United threatened to run away with at and Mackay-Steven had an effort deflected over, before Ryan Gauld was given his first appearance for the first team as the exciting prospect came on for Russell.

Right away, the diminutive winger linked well with Dow before Rankin shot wide. Motherwell had a couple of late attempts but, by that stage, there was little doubt it would be United's day.

Full time: Motherwell 0 United 2

A party atmosphere as 900 Arabs joined their hosts for a celebration of the season's achievements. A fine performance from United rounded off another fine season, giving the fans a chance to thank some of the players who will be moving on, while Peter Houston also took the opportunity to prove that the future remains bright by playing a number of players that are likely to play prominent roles next year.

Man of the match: Jon Daly. No shortage of contenders, including the three players in the centre of midfield that put in an extremely commanding display. But Daly yet again showed his worth to United as he filled in at centre half because of an injury crisis and looked a natural in the role, before even managing to pop up with a late clincher at the end of the pitch he is more used to.

Subs not used: Hollis, Daley, Forbes, Page, Carswell

United: Pernis; Watson, Dixon, Dillon, Daly; Rankin, Robertson, Ryan, Swanson (Dow, 55), Armstrong (Mackay-Steven, 69)

Attendance:
The Administrators of Rangers FC did not attend today's General Meeting in person and instead submitted a proxy.

Financial Fair Play:
Immediately prior to today's General Meeting, a written request was received from the Administrators of Rangers FC to adjourn the meeting dealing with financial fair play.

The other eleven clubs agreed with this request and the general meeting was adjourned to 10am on Wednesday 30 May 2012.

Newco:
The eleven member clubs present in person at today's General Meeting unanimously called for the power to deal with any newco application to be moved from the Board to the clubs. This requires 21 clear days' notice. The clubs will therefore meet again on 30 May to consider a resolution designed to achieve this.

In the event that an application for transfer of share to a newco is received before 30 May, then it can be dealt with by the SPL Board. The SPL Board have indicated that they would, in those circumstances, call together the clubs before any such decision was made.

For the avoidance of doubt, no decision on any transfer of a share to a newco has yet been made; nor has any such application been received.

Voting Change:
At the request of the Administrators of Rangers FC, the separate adjourned General Meeting to deal with possible changes to rules of voting was also adjourned to 30 May.
