CIS CUP SELECTION PROBLEMS

21st August 2000

United have selection problems for Tuesday night's CIS Cup second round tie against First Division Alloa at Recreation Park. Midfielder Craig Easton, who would have been an injury doubt after gashing his head in Saturday's clash with St Johnstone, is suspended along with striker Steven Thompson.

Manager Alex Smith also has several injuries to contend with. Jim Paterson will again be missing because of a hamstring strain, while winger Neil Heaney is extremely doubtful with a back knock. Young striker Stephen McConalogue could come in, but has been off with a virus recently and is lacking fitness.

These problems would be offset to a degree if clearance for the Cameroon international who has been on trial comes through so he can be signed on a short-term contract and United are still trying to obtain it. However, it could be that Jim Hamilton is handed his first start of the season
