PATERSON SIDELINED AGAIN

14th September 2000

Midfielder Jim Paterson's bad luck with injuries has continued with the news that he has cracked a bone in the leg he fractured last season. The Under-21 international broke the leg in a match against Aberdeen in November 1999 and that ended his season. He returned for the start of the campaign but took a knock in the same place against Airdrie last week, and again at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Now an x-ray has revealed a small crack and, while it's not yet known how long he will be sidelined, Paterson will be out for a while. "It's another blow for Jim and he has had a bad run with injuries. We all feel for him", said team boss Alex Smith.

Paterson's place in the team to face St Mirren on Saturday will be allocated to Neil Heaney, the close-season signing from Darlington. "He feels that berth on the left side is his best position and while it is unfortunate for Jim, it's a chance for Neil to show what he can do," added Alex.
