GABBIADINI INTEREST CONFIRMED

29th May 2000

Manager Paul Sturrock confirmed on Monday that Darlington striker Marco Gabbiadini is a possible transfer target. He stressed, however, that it is far from certain that he will be offering the 32-year-old former Sunderland, Derby County and Crystal Palace man a contract at Tannadice.

"I have been to watch him, but he is one of a number of players we have looked at and at this stage it is too early to say whether I will move to sign him," says Paul. "He has scored 28 goals this season and that in itself means he is someone who was worth having a look at."

As Paul says, Gabbiadini is only one of many players he is considering for next season's squad and he has been talking to a string of managers and agents about players.

"I've been on the phone a lot and I'll be on a lot more before I get the people I want. It will still take a bit of time though, because many of the players involved are not out of contract until the end of June and if they are playing in Britain we can't speak to them until then."
