PAUL STURROCK - THE BOARD’S STATEMENT

7th August 2000

Following the news that the Board of Directors of Dundee United Football Club has today reluctantly accepted the resignation of Manager Paul Sturrock they issued the following statement: “Paul leaves Tannadice with our best wishes and thanks for his loyal and dedicated service to Dundee United. The Club accepts and sympathises with Paul’s decision to tender his resignation. We would wish to stress however that Paul has assured us that he is in continuing good health and that health was not a factor in his decision to step down. We wish Paul and his family every success and happiness in future. The Club is pleased to confirm that Alex Smith has this afternoon been appointed interim Manager with immediate effect. Alex will be supported by John Blackley and Maurice Malpas. A further statement will be made in due course regarding the long-term managerial arrangements at Dundee United. We wish to take this opportunity to thank Dundee United supporters for their patience and messages of support and urge them to give Alex, John and Maurice their full and continued backing in the weeks ahead."
