BLACKLEY ON SPYING MISSION

5th October 2000

The absence of Alex Smith and Maurice Malpas has not stopped coach John Blackley heading off to look for more fresh talent. While the Scotland Under-21's management team currently carry out their international duties, Blackley has been on a spying mission south of the border and will contact boss Smith with his verdict. Blackley said," I took in a few games down south, and a couple of players on show were impressive."

Back on the training ground, Blackley has been delighted with the way United's playing staff have made the newcomers feel so welcome. "It's so important that the new lads who have come over can integrate as soon as possible," he added. " There is a big squad at present but the lack of changing room pegs has been met with humour. "Everyone is mixing well, and socialising together, which is great to see."

Skipper Jason de Vos and striker Stephen McConalogue have missed a few days training due to a viral infection. Defender Stephen Wright should return to full training early next week.
