United failed to build on last Saturday's win over Dunfermline despite some long spells of dominance against Kilmarnock who scored a late second half goal to take all three points from Tannadice.
The Tangerine's cause was not helped by the loss of the industrious Jamie Fullarton with a bad leg injury mid-way through the second half but the season-long inability to finish off moves was again on display.
The blow of losing a late goal in a game which for long spells looked yielding at least one point should not detract from another hard-working United performance which was acknowledged by warm applause at the final whistle.
