SMITH CONFIDENT OF NEW SIGNING

2nd November 2000

Tannadice was the centre of more transfer speculation on Thursday as Manager Alex Smith confirmed he was trying to bring in a couple of new faces for Saturday's visit to Motherwell.

Hearts former United attacker Darren Jackson and Crystal Palace midfielder Jamie Fullerton were both being strongly linked, but the Manager was not in a position to be able to confirm who his targets were. He did, though, hint that some of the players he has been looking at had not previously been mentioned in connection with a move to United.

With Alex growing increasingly confident about landing at least one of his targets in time for Fir Park, the picture should become clearer very soon. "We are looking at bringing in new faces and we are working towards doing that before Saturday," he confirmed.

He is also hoping to welcome back Dave Hannah to the squad after an absence of just over a month due to a groin problem. Long term injury victims Jim Paterson, Danny Griffin and Stephen Wright are all still some way away from seeing action.
