UNITED SECURE ROBERTSON EXTENSION

4th October 2013

Dundee United today announced the contract extension of 19-year-old Andy Robertson. The new deal will see Andy remain at Dundee United until at least May 2016 and rewards the excellent start Andy has made to his United career.

The left back joined in summer 2013 from Queen's Park and Manager Jackie McNamara immediately installed him within his first team squad. Several eye catching performances have already earned Andy player of the month awards at national level and from fans' groups and his good form has been rewarded with a call-up to the Scotland Under 21 squad for the forthcoming UEFA European matches versus Slovakia and Georgia on 10 October and 14 October respectively.

Manager Jackie McNamara said, "Andy has really impressed so far, he has been at it from the moment he came in the door and his attitude and performance levels deserve to be rewarded with this extended deal.

"He has made the left back position his own, he has settled in well within the squad and has been a great ambassador for Dundee United. The Club have recognised this and are committed to rewarding performance and ability but also ensuring protection for the Club. This shows the fans we are continually evolving and ensuring the long term wellbeing of Dundee United."

A delighted Andy Robertson said, "I was only too happy to sign the extension. Coming to Dundee United has been everything I hoped and more. The dressing room is brilliant, the atmosphere around the place feels right and I am learning as a footballer from great coaches.

"To secure a longer deal at the Club means I can focus on continuing my education as a footballer. The style of the football Dundee United play suits my game and under Jackie McNamara I know I will continue to improve as a defender."
