Scottish League Cup Final Scotrail Travel Advice

10th March 2015

ScotRail has announced ‘special’ football trains will operate between Dundee and Glasgow on Sunday, March 15 for the Dundee United versus Celtic League Cup final at Hampden. Dundee United fans will be able to board a dedicated train at Dundee station which will run non-stop to Glasgow Queen Street. Included in the ticket price will be onward travel to Mount Florida station from Glasgow Central. The train will depart Dundee at 11:05, arriving in Glasgow Queen Street at 12:27. On the return, the train will depart Glasgow at 18:13, arriving in Dundee at 19:53. In the event of extra time or penalties, the return train will depart at 18:53, arriving in Dundee at 20:06. Tickets are priced at £26 for a return journey and can only be purchased in advance at Dundee train station every day between 09:00 and 19:00 until they sell out. A parent and child ticket is available for £28, and all ticket-holders are guaranteed a seat. In the event of this first train selling out, a second train will be added and times will be confirmed on ScotRail’s website at www.scotrail.co.uk/sport. These ‘special’ trains will run in addition to the current scheduled trains stopping at Dundee, and any reservations or tickets for these timetabled trains will still be valid. However, customers should be aware that they may have to queue for these services as they are expected to be busy. There will be extra ScotRail staff and British Transport Police at stations to assist customers on the day, and queuing systems will be in place at Dundee and Glasgow Central on the outbound journey, and at Mount Florida and Glasgow Queen Street on the return. As with all major events, an alcohol ban will be in place on trains to and from the match to ensure all customers can enjoy their day and have a pleasant journey. A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “These special football trains will allow Dundee fans to travel to and from the game both quickly and easily. “As tickets are only available in advance, we would urge fans to purchase them from Dundee station as soon as possible. “On the day of the game, additional ScotRail staff will be in stations to give guidance to customers, so please listen to their advice.” A British Transport Police spokesman said: "The League Cup Final between Dundee United and Celtic promises to be a great match and fitting occasion for both teams and sets of supporters. "If you're travelling by train to Hampden Park in Glasgow be aware that many ScotRail services, including specials, will have alcohol restrictions in place. This is for a very good reason. “We want everyone to arrive safely, securely and on time and without encountering alcohol-fuelled antisocial behaviour which could spoil your day, or someone else's, unnecessarily."
