Dundee United today launched the official Dundee United Football Club Women’s Team that will represent the Club in the Scottish Women’s Football League (SWFL) wearing the distinctive tangerine official United kit. Director Justine Mitchell said, “Women’s football is growing in popularity and female footballers are playing at an increasingly higher level underlining the demand for an official Dundee United women’s team. We have worked closely with the Scottish FA (East Region) and their encouragement has been greatly appreciated. “I am proud to be involved in the launch of the team and I look forward to the challenge of securing the best Head Coach to foster the development of the team.” The Dundee United team will be applying to play in the SWFL and use the recently regenerated GA Engineering Arena as its hub for both training and matches. The surface has earned praise as the finest 3G surface in Scotland and today’s launch will see the women’s team join the Club’s highly successful Youth Academy in benefiting from its redevelopment. Scottish FA (East Region) Club Development Officer Sam Milne said, “It is great news that DUFC have launched their new women's team today. I know Dundee United is excited about adding this new section to the club. They are the first SPFL team in the area to launch a women's team. This would be an opportunity for any unattached players who have maybe dropped out the game and want to challenge themselves to play football again.” Justine Mitchell added, “Our commitment to this initiative is in line with our aim to increase participation in sport for the benefit of the wider local community. This strategy will see us develop new links with other sports and sports clubs around shared facilities.” Today also marks the launch of the search for a Head Coach and this position is sure to attract an excellent calibre.
