Dev League: United 2 Hamilton Accies 2

9th November 2016

In a hard fought encounter at Glebe Park, the Young Terrors twice came from behind to earn a well merited point against their Accies counterparts. By Peter Rundo First blood went to the visitors after 17 minutes when Ben Reilly drilled a low angled drive into the bottom corner from 18 yards. United went close to equalising two minutes later. An Aaron Murrell shot was blocked and Ali Coote’s follow up effort skimmed the outside of the near post. On the half hour mark, Dom Mcmeekin deservedly levelled with a chip from the edge of the that dropped in just inside the far post. However, Accies were back in front seven minutes later when Shaun Hunt knocked in a cross from the left at the far post. And two minutes later, the visitors should have scored a third when Ronan Hughes headed past when it looked easier to score. They were made to regret that miss on the stroke of half-time when Matty Smith fired into the roof of the net from just inside the box. On 69 minutes, only a great block by Harvey Dailly at full stretch prevented Hamilton regaining the lead, blocking a Ferguson effort. Ten minutes from the end, the hosts almost snatched victory when Graham Taylor was through on the keeper but his lofted effort failed to hit the target. Dundee United: Long, Ritchie, Toshney (Reekie 71), Dailly, Hornby, Mcmeekin, Allardice, B Smith, Coote, Murrell (Garden 64), M Smith (Taylor 71). Subs not used: Davie, Appere, Chalmers.
