Dev League: Kilmarnock 3 Dundee United 4

15th November 2016

The Young Terrors came back from two down to win 4 - 3 over their Kilmarnock counterparts at Rugby Park tonight. By Peter Rundo The hosts made the early running with Josh Donaldson brilliantly keeping out a Jack Paterson drive from 15 yards after just two minutes. Five minutes later, Ali Coote was denied by home keeper Devlin Mackay at the other end. A minute later Killie went close gain, Jack Whittaker’s first time effort clipping the top of the bar. With the visitors taking a grip on proceedings it was no surprise when they took the lead. A Stewart Murdoch pass found Louis Appere who stroked the ball home from 12 yards. On 26 minutes, a Murdoch strike was well saved as United dominated. But just past the half hour mark, keeper Josh Donaldson did well to scoop off the line, only for Aiden Wilson to level with a looping header into the far corner. And two minutes later, the Tangerines fell behind when Lewis Morrison netted with an acrobatic hitch-kick from 12 yards. And a third goal inside nine minutes saw the Ayrshire side double the lead. Florent Bojaj beat two men on the edge of the box before firing home. United fought back in the second half and substitute Jordan Hornby was unlucky not to score with a downward header which Mackay touched over. But United did, however, reduce the leeway midway through the second half when Louis Appere controlled a Cammy Ballantyne cross to score with a shot on the turn from eight-yards. Appere then had a had a goal disallowed, but United did level with 15 minutes to go. Defender Scott Reekie fired in a volley which hit an arm and Ali Coote duly despatched the resultant penalty. And the comeback was complete with ten minutes left, Logan Chalmers played the ball through to Graham Taylor who deftly fired home from 12 yards. Dundee United: J Donaldson, Ballantyne, Reekie, Dailly, Davie, Murdoch (Hornby 51), Allardice, Taylor, Coote, Chalmers, Appere. Subs not used: M Smith, Garden, Ritchie, Murrell, Mcmeekin.
