Dev League: Dundee United 2 Hearts 2

21st December 2016

Despite an infusion of five first teamers, the Tangerines were held to a draw by a predominately young Hearts side at Station Park, Forfar, this afternoon. Luis Zwick, Coll Donaldson, Paul Dixon, Stewart Murdoch and Cammy Smith all started for United who fell behind after just a couple of minutes when Dario Zanatta drilled home from ten yards. Cammy Smith fired an effort just over shortly afterwards, but enjoyed better luck on 18 minutes when he was on the end of a deflected Brad Smith cross to volley a deserved equaliser from eight yards. In a rare raid by the visitors Zanatta zigzagged his way through on Zwick who saved. And at the other end a Murdoch drive stung the keeper’s hands. And a minute later, he went close again, only Kelby Mason’s fine save denying him. Dixon was replaced by Reekie after the break as United continued to dictate and six minutes after the restart Cammy Smith’s searing strike from 15-yards beat the keeper at his near post to put the hosts ahead. Five minutes later, it was almost three with both Jordan and Garden and Scott Allardice going close. However, Callum Morrison curled one off the crossbar as the visitors built up a head of steam. And they were rewarded with the equaliser midway through the second half when Harry Paton swung over a free-kick from which skipper Leon Jones powered home a header. Dundee United: Zwick, Ritchie, C Donaldson, Dailly, Dixon (Reekie 46), Murdoch, Allardice, Coote, C Smith (M Smith 82), B Smith (Taylor 32), Garden. Subs not used: Long, Murrell, Appéré, Davie.     Full story to follow.
