UNITED INTEREST IN GRIFFIN CONFIRMED

3rd July 2000

Signings are on the way and soon_that was the confident message to fans from manager Paul Sturrock on Monday.

With the exception of recent arrivals Jamie Buchan and Hasney Aljofree, so far this summer it's been about departures at Tannadice as Paul has pruned his squad. That's now complete and the manager has stressed the emphasis is very much on bringing in the players he wants for the new season.

St Johnstone defender Danny Griffin, a protege of Paul's at McDiarmid Park, could be one of them and the club have confirmed their interest in the Northern Ireland international. If Griffin does sign up, he will not be the only new face and a string of trialists have been fixed up.

"We've streamlined the staff and now there will be signings, I can assure the fans of that," says Paul. "We have people coming over this week and there should be several trialists with us in Ireland next week. We have a young squad and I will be looking to add experienced first team players for a number of positions."

Meanwhile, the club have received confirmation that Canadian pair Pat Onstad and Jason de Vos will miss the Ireland trip because of World Cup commitments with their country.
