Dev League: Partick Thistle 4 Dundee United 2

1st May 2017

Despite scoring two late goals, Dundee United slumped to a disappointing defeat as the curtain came down on their league season at Airdrie. By Peter Rundo There was a distinct end of season feel to proceedings for most of the first half. Apart from a couple of Logan Chalmers efforts that were just off target, goalmouth action was at a premium. Ironically, the Jags went ahead following winning a corner in their first real attack after 36 minutes. When the kick was delivered, Harvey Dailly was adjudged to have fouled Dakoya King and Neil McLaughlin converted the spot-kick. Shortly afterwards, United keeper Brett Long did well to keep out a Matt McInally attempt. United opened the second half more brightly and only a fine save prevented Logan Chalmers levelling. Against the run of play, Thistle doubled their lead, Mark Lamont scoring with a glancing header from a King cross. On 63 minutes, McLaughlin knocked in Lee Duncanson’s low driven cross for the third. And after  74 minutes later, McLaughlin dinked in the fourth and it looked game over. However, with 11 minutes left, Chalmers curled one into the top corner from just outside the penalty area by way of consolation. And Chalmers scored a second with five minutes left, drilling home a low drive from just inside the box. Dundee UnIted: Long, Ritchie (Allan 46), Hornby, B Smith, Reekie, Davidson, Chalmers, Dailly, Garden (Robb 72), Appere, Mcmeekin. Subs not used: None.
