Deniz Joins United

13th July 2017

Dundee United announced on Thursday the signing, subject to international clearance,  of 24-year-old goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet on a one-year contract. The 6ft 3in stopper had been on trial recently at United and played in three pre-season games. Deniz, who was born in Kent, England, has represented Turkey from Under-16s to Under-21s. Deniz played for Port Vale last season and had also played for Falkirk, Kayserispor, Welling United. He lists West Ham, Manchester United, Charlton Athletic and Arsenal amongst his youth clubs. Deniz said, "Once I heard United were interested, I was keen to come up and train. I know all about the ambition of this Club and I want to help win the title. "I am here to challenge for the number one jersey and I want to play my part in what will hopefully be a great season for us." Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon said, "Deniz has done very well since he came into the Club and had looked very good in training and the pre-season games. He has an excellent pedigree and has shown he wants to be a United player. "He will increase competition for the goalkeeper's spot, and that is good for the Club as well as for the individual goalies."
