Logan Chalmers was the Tangerines' hero with a first half hat-trick with new boy Idris Kadded getting the fourth before the visitors pulled one back from a late penalty.

United had the boost of an early goal when Chalmers fired home from 10 yards after Logan Martin teed him up.

On the quarter of an hour mark, Cammy Ballantyne was brought down by Thomas Brindley and Chalmers drilled the penalty low into the bottom corner.

Just before the half hour mark, Louis Appere thundered a shot against the cross bar, but United did score a third on the stroke of half time with Chalmers crashing home from 22 yards.

Given they had dominated possession, Killie could have felt hard done by to go in at the break three down, but they had failed to create a chance of note.

Indeed, almost immediately on the restart, they threatened for the first time when Iranian Alex Samizadeh smashed a shot against the post.

But United added a fourth on 57 minutes, Kadded squeezing the ball home from an Appere cutback.

With eight minutes left, the visitors got a consolation counter, Innes Cameron hammering home a penalty awarded after Ballantyne had brought down Jack Paterson.
