Falkirk Game Foodbank Appeal

11th April 2018

Following on from United’s vastly successful Christmas foodbank appeal in which supporters donated a staggering 625 kilos of food and over £3,000 in cash, the Club will be hosting its second collection of the season this coming Saturday prior to the game versus Falkirk.

The campaign is carried again by Dundee United Community Trust, ArabTRUST, ULT, Taught by Muhammad and Dundee Foodbank

Dundee United Club Captain Willo Flood said: “Nobody should have to go hungry in a country like this and it is shocking how many people do. I would ask everybody to get behind this renewed appeal to help the most vulnerable in our society and we will have a bucket in the changing room, too.”

Dundee United Director David Dorward stated: "Dundee United have always been a Club deeply involved and rooted in its local community, and we are delighted to be able to support the Foodbank collections at our matches. Our fans and visiting fans have been very generous at past food collections, and the Club will do everything it can to assist with this wonderful initiative. If fans coming to the Falkirk match can't bring food donations then there will also be an opportunity to make a cash donation."

Michael Calder, Stock Coordinator of Dundee Foodbank added:  “We’re very grateful to Dundee United for their continued support. This year we face the added pressure of Universal Credit - since the new system kicked in last November, Dundee Foodbank has seen a marked increase in referrals putting great demand on our stock levels. We kindly request food or money donations prior to the match to stop local families going hungry.”

Rizwan Rafik, Operations Manager at Taught by Muhammad, stated: "It's great to see everyone working together regardless of their faith, background and race to help those most in need within our community".

Colin Clement, on behalf of ArabTRUST said: “We are proud to be involved again and hope as many people as possible can bring something along to support people facing hardship within our community.

Echoing the above, Jamie Kirk, Head of Operations at the Dundee United Community Trust declared: “I’m delighted that Dundee United Community Trust is supporting such a worthwhile initiative again.  There’s a strong track record of the United family pulling together for the good of the community and I’m sure this will be no different.”
