United Women Clinch Title and Promotion to SWPL 2

23rd October 2018

On a fantastic Sunday afternoon at Tannadice Park, Dundee United's Women’s Team clinched the SWFL 1 North Title with a resounding 7-2 victory over Cove Rangers.  It was to be the first time the team had played an official match on Tannadice itself and it turned out to be extra special with silverware presented at the end.

Team Captain Keira Johnstone said, “I am massively proud of the girls and what we have achieved this season.  It was a big day for us and the girls performed brilliantly.  Everyone has worked incredibly hard – players and coaches – to gain promotion to SWPL 2.  We can’t wait to get started next season!”

Head Coach Gavin Beith added, “To finish the season off the way we did was very pleasing, doing this at Tannadice made it such a special day for everyone involved. On and off the park so many people have worked extremely hard over the years to support the team and it’s a fitting way to cap off a good season. It’s now onto the next chapter for the club and playing SWPL2 football is hugely exciting for all.”

Jamie Kirk on behalf the Community Trust was equally delighted for the team.  “Everyone at the Trust would like to congratulate the players, and coaches on such a wonderful achievement.  We’re so proud of them all.  Developing the female game is a really important part of our work and while they may not always realise it, the players are true role models to young girls.  Our next challenge as a Trust is how we harness this and take the whole female programme to the next level.  The support of the football club has been brilliant – as always – too.  To have had over 400 supporters, the Chairman and Board Members and the First Team Manager along was absolutely terrific.”

The team now has their end of season awards night to look forward to next month before a short break.
