UNITED SUPPORT MAGGIE’S DUNDEE

13th November 2019

Dundee United is looking forward to welcoming volunteers from the local Maggie’s Centre to Saturday’s home game versus Queen of the South.

Maggie’s will be well known to most United fans for their warm and welcoming free cancer support centres across the UK including in Dundee. Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, they are run by expert staff helping individuals and their families to cope and live with cancer.

Maggie’s Dundee Centre Fundraising Manager Annie Long said: “It is wonderful to see Dundee United and their fans supporting Maggie’s. We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to provide professional, emotional and practical support to people living with cancer across the entire Tayside region, so we are incredibly grateful for everyone’s generosity. We see 13,000 visits at Maggie’s Dundee every year, so the funds will go a long way to helping us support people during what is possibly the hardest time of their lives. It is also fabulous to see the team warming up in our T-shirts and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the Club for all their efforts.”

Jill Fleming, one of the volunteers who will be collecting donations on Saturday, added: “I fundraise for Maggie's after seeing the genuine care and support they provided for my uncle Jimmy after diagnosis and throughout his treatment. It took a lot of pressure off my family and he enjoyed talking through his treatment and ailments with people who could understand what he was going through. They also supported our family with appointments and helped him get the right care.”

Dundee United Managing Director Mal Brannigan stated: “We are delighted to welcome volunteers from Maggie’s Dundee to Tannadice on Saturday. The support provided by these centres is invaluable to individuals and their families facing the life-changing challenge of cancer. It is humbling to think that Maggie’s almost entirely relies on donations and I am sure the United family will fully back this cause.”

There will be a bucket collection in the concourses and the United squad will warm up in designated T-shirts to show their support. Donations can also be made per text and details will be displayed on the big screen at Tannadice before kick-off and at half time.
