COMMUNITY TRUST WELCOMES OVER 100 FESTIVE FRIENDS AT TANNADICE ON CHRISTMAS DAY

16th December 2019

Over 100 people will come together at Tannadice and enjoy a Christmas dinner at Dundee United Community Trust’s Festive Friends yuletide event.

Dundee United Community Trust (DUCT) is looking forward to host its annual Festive Friends Christmas Day meal at Tannadice Park. Last year the Community Trust organised its first ever SPFL Trust Festive Friends Meal on Christmas Day and DUCT are looking to make this year even bigger and better! Currently the Community Trust have over 100 guests who have registered their interest in spending Christmas Day at the home of Dundee United FC with a number of committed volunteers.

Thanks to the funding from the SPFL Trust and a fantastic fundraising campaign from the Team DUCT Kiltwalkers, over £10,000 has been raised for the event. The day will be full of entertainment, food, gifts and cheer and the Community Trust hope to give all guests an amazing Christmas experience!

Jamie Kirk, Chief Executive of Dundee United Community Trust, said: “We like to think we make a difference throughout the year, but being able to open the doors of Tannadice Park on Christmas Day is extra special and we couldn’t do it without a wonderful band of committed volunteers and the support and assistance of the Club’s caterers Alchemy. We also need the help of the community to encourage people who might be on their own on Christmas Day to come along to Tannadice and join us for a meal to remember. We are catering for 120 people on Christmas Day and will arrange transport to and from Tannadice.  If you know of someone who would benefit, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Dundee United Community Trust on michael.malone@dundeeunitedct.co.uk.”

One of our guests from last year said, “I really enjoyed spending the day with other people. I don’t have any family and would have been on my own all day. The meal was great and the gift bags we received were lovely, too! I am delighted to be invited again this year and it gives me something to look forward to.”

Club captain Mark Reynolds said: “It says a lot about Dundee United as a community club that it is opening its doors on Christmas Day and well done to DUCT! We will be in training on the 25th ahead of the derby and the lads and I are only too happy to pop in and show our support for this fantastic event.”

Mal Brannigan, Managing Director at Dundee United FC stated: “The Club is delighted to be part of the delivery team, alongside the Trust and Alchemy, in hosting this year’s Festive Friends Christmas Day meal at Tannadice Park.  Last year’s inaugural event was extremely successful and very special with individuals, families with young children and older people coming along and spending their Christmas Day with us and I am really looking forward to the occasion this year. We are happy to welcome anyone who would like to come along on the day to either volunteer or to join us for their Christmas meal.”

Dundee United Community Trust have been linking with organisations and groups that would know of individuals or families who may like to attend on the day over the past few weeks. However, if you know of anyone that may benefit from some company and support on the day, please get in touch.
