BOARD MEMBER DAVID DORWARD HONOURED WITH MBE

7th January 2021

Dundee United is delighted to see board member David Dorward honoured with an MBE for services to children and families in the city in the New Years Honours List.

David has been chairman of Dundee Bairns, a local food charity for underprivileged children, since he retired from local government in 2014 and it is down to his charity work for which he has been rewarded.

More than 300,000 meals for local children have been provided by Dundee Bairns since its inception and has become a representation for similar charities across the UK.

David's charity work doesn't end there, however. He is also an associate director of the Rank Foundation, with which he manages the distribution of over £3 million of funding to charities, community groups and social enterprises.

A life-long United fan, David took on full board member status at Tannadice in 2017 having previously been an associate director and has played his part in the success the club has enjoyed over the last few seasons and looks to continue in the years to come.

David's contribution to United doesn't stop there as he's also chairman of the Dundee United Community Trust and helped oversee their reinvention in 2016 while also being chairman when they received awards at both SFA and UEFA level.

"I am absolutely delighted and honoured to have received an MBE in the New Year's honours list, in recognition of the work that Dundee Bairns has carried out since I founded it in 2016," said David.

"During the last 4 years Dundee Bairns has delivered over 300,000 meals to children throughout Dundee, and in January 2021 we will provide over 2000 children and young people with warm winter clothing.

"This honour is as much for all the Dundee Bairns volunteers and trustees, as it for myself, without them Dundee Bairns would not be able to operate."
