INTERNATIONAL JOY AND COVID-19 DESPAIR FOR MIDFIELDER

23rd March 2021

Midfielder Florent Hoti’s joy at his recent call-up to the Albanian Under 21 squad has been tempered by the news that the 20-year-old’s involvement has been postponed due to the Covid-19 restrictions relating to non-essential travel restrictions.

Flo, who joined the Club in 2020, has been pursued by both the Kosovan and Albanian under 21 associations and was looking forward to joining up with his Albanian team-mates for the training camp that would have also included matches against domestic clubs. Current Covid-19 travel restrictions put paid to his trip.

The Club liaised with both the Scottish FA and the Scottish Government as to whether Flo’s circumstances met the exemption criteria under current travel legislation. Unfortunately it was confirmed to us that, because the friendly matches were not FIFA approved, Flo would not be granted a travel exemption letter on this occasion.

Flo said: “I was delighted to be called up by the Albanian Under 21 association and I was keen to go as I wanted to repay the faith but Covid-19 has impacted far greater things than this so i accept the situation. What it does show me is that there is a clear path for me in International football if I continue to work hard and improve at Dundee United.”

Sporting Director Tony Asghar said, “Although there is disappointment at not being able to travel, this is a major boost and a well deserved call-up for Flo. He has been working hard in training, has done well on loan and now needs to force his way into the first-team plans on a more regular basis. He is an exciting talent and everyone is delighted to see him receive the International recognition.”

DUTV subscribers can hear from Flo as he discusses his call-up now.
