JUNIOR ACADEMY & GOALKEEPING ACADEMY RETURNS

16th August 2021

Dundee United Community Trust is delighted to announce the return of the extremely popular Junior Academy and Goalkeeping Academy following its summer break.

Weekend sessions will resume on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August, however a brand new midweek Junior Academy will start on Wednesday 18 August.  The Trust are also excited to confirm that Junior Academy and Goalkeeping Academy sessions will return to Gussie Park for the coming year.

Junior Academy is a fun football coaching programme for boys and girls aged P1-S2 that aims to develop both the football and social skills of children of all abilities.  Thanks to our fantastic and committed team of Scottish FA qualified coaches, Junior Academy provides the perfect environment for children to thrive and meet new friends.

Paul Wilson, Head of Community Development, commented, “Junior Academy is now entering its fourth year and since it started in 2018 we have provided an award winning coaching programme for children of all ages and abilities.  Junior Academy continues to be a perfect place for children to try out football for the very first time, for raising children’s aspirations to join grassroots teams and continue their footballing journey, and for providing a high quality additional training session for players already with grassroots clubs.”

Goalkeeping Academy is a specialised programme aimed at improving and finely tuning the technical aspects of goalkeeping.  Our goalkeeping coaches bring a wealth of coaching and playing knowledge and experience which sets Goalkeeping Academy up as a place where goalkeepers of any ability can join us to have fun and become a better 'keeper.

Paul continued, “We have two Goalkeeping Academy sessions that take place on Saturday mornings.  Our earlier session is ideal for children who want to try out a goalkeeping session for the first time or are playing 7-a-side with a grassroots club as the sessions aim to improve goalkeeping basics like catching, shot stopping and throwing.  Our later session is more suited towards goalkeepers playing 9 or 11-a-side football, as it aims to improve ‘keepers at set pieces and organising their defence, amongst other key areas of goalkeeping.”

With over 130 children already signed up for the coming year, spaces at Junior Academy and Goalkeeping Academy are limited.  This year, our membership benefits include:

  • A t-shirt for all members
  • A 50% discount towards siblings memberships
  • Discounts on the Trusts holiday camps
  • The chance to be selected as a Dundee United FC mascot

Parents/guardians can also take advantage of a free taster session before they join fully as a member.

Paul added, “With a membership to our Junior Academy and Goalkeeping Academy costing less than £14 per month we believe that Junior Academy and Goalkeeping Academy offer the a fantastic value for money.”
