CHIARINI SIGNS FOR DUNDEE UNITED

10th January 2002

Dundee United today completed the signing of 23-year-old Italian defender Daniele Chiarini. Daniele, who was a free agent after a short spell at Partick Thistle, has signed a contract until 31st May 2004.

Chiarini was an ever present at centre-back with Thistle since last October, after being released by Italian side Udinese. He signed as a 17-year-old for Fiorentina before moving to Udinese.

Eddie Thompson, Chairman of Dundee United said, "Daniele is a very talented young player with great potential. He has already proved at Partick Thistle that he has what it takes to compete in the Bank of Scotland premierleague. He is a quick learner and will get even better as the season goes on.

"This signing and that of Billy Dodds proves that we are determined to keep moving Dundee United forward and upwards especially over the next few months."

Daniele Chiarini said, "This is a great opportunity for myself. I enjoyed my time at Partick Thistle and I would like to thank them for giving me the chance to come into Scottish football. I know that Dundee United face challenges over the next few months. However, I hope to prove to Mr Thompson and Paul Hegarty that the faith they have shown in me is fully justified."
