ALEX SMITH NETS MANAGER OF THE MONTH AGAIN

6th February 2002

An excellent series of results including a Tayside derby win has resulted in Dundee United manager Alex Smith being named Bank of Scotland Manager of the Month for January.

Against a backcloth of intense off-field publicity, Alex Smith led his team to a series of key victories especially in the games against Dundee and St Johnstone.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Football Writers' Association said, "It is always disconcerting for a manager when more is written about off-field activities than what is happening on the pitch. However, Alex Smith at key times was able to keep his team focused and he deserves great praise for that."

George Mitchell, Treasurer and Managing Director at the Bank of Scotland said, "Alex Smith and his team did exceptionally well throughout January, and what was particularly pleasing was the number of young Scottish players he was able to use and still achieve results in this highly competitive League."

The presentation will be made by Bank of Scotland employee Angela Anderson from Queen Street branch, Glasgow, who stars in Bank of Scotland's new TV advertisement. The advertisement will be shown for the first time on Wednesday evening (6 February) on Scottish Television, during the live football match between Hibernian and Ayr United. In the new advertisement Angela, 33, sings about Bank of Scotland's competitive Current Account to the tune of Shaggy's chart-topping hit 'Angel'.
