Eight of Dundee United's first-team stars are ready to represent their country as the domestic action pauses for the international break.

From Bissau to Turku and everywhere in between, let's take a deep dive into their respective globe-trotting exploits!

IURIE IOVU | MOLDOVA

Our second signing of the summer window, Iurie Iovu’s summer exploits have caught the attention of Moldova boss Serghei Clescenco and secured a return to the senior side for our number four.

The 23-year-old has cemented himself as a key pillar in the Terrors’ backline, and netted his first senior goal during our UEFA Conference League adventure when his towering header against UNA Strassen rubber-stamped progression into the Third Qualifying Round.

Looking to turn their fortunes around in World Cup Qualifying Group I, The Tricolorii welcome second-placed Israel to the Stadionul Zimbrau this Friday in the hopes of closing the gap between the sides to three points.

Iovu and his teammates will then head north to Oslo the following Tuesday to go-head-to-head with table-topping Norway, who have won all four of their opening matches.

Our number four remains the youngest player to represent his country in a competitive match since 2018, after making his debut against Austria aged just 19 years and four months.

PANUTCHE CAMARA | GUINEA-BISSAU

Panutche Camará and Guinea-Bissau host a double-header at the Estadio Nacional de 24 Setembro as they continue their quest to reach the World Cup finals for the first time in their history.

A fan favourite in the engine room, the rangy midfield general has four senior caps to his name having jousted with Sudan, Egypt, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea throughout 2022. The latter ended in a 3-0 victory, with Camara finding the back of the net inside the 90th minute.

Guinea-Bissau can leapfrog Sierra Leone into third place when the sides meet in the capital on Thursday. Fulham Cult hero Luis Boa Morte will subsequently lead his charges into battle with Djibouti four days later.

Os Dromedários only victory in Group A to date came at the expense of the East African outfit in November 2023 to consign them to the foot of the table. Djibouti remain rooted to the bottom without a point on the board, having conceded no fewer than 20 goals in their six matches.

AMAR FATAH | SWEDEN U21

Attacking livewire Amar Fatah heads back to his homeland in the hopes of aiding his country’s efforts to end a ten-year absence from the UEFA Under-21 European Championship.

The former Manchester City starlet has bounced back from an injury which halted his pre-season preparations to feature on four occasions for the Terrors during August, registering an assist for Owen Stirton’s Premier Sports Cup strike at Rugby park in the process

Fatah’s last of six showings at U21 level came just three months ago when Sweden battled with England in an international friendly.

He now returns to a squad which will open their qualifying journey against Armenia on home soil. The match takes place on Friday 5 September, with a trip to Montenegro pencilled in for Daniel Backstrom’s men the following week.

DARIO NAAMO | FINLAND U21

A familiar face within the Pikkuhuuhkajat set-up, Dario Naamo is closing in on ten caps for Finland’s U21s heading into their UEFA Under-21 European Championship Qualifiers.

Having shaken off an ankle knock, the 20-year-old has made promising cameos in battles with Kilmarnock and Dundee as his tangerine tenure begins to build up ahead of steam.

The Scandinavian nation appeared at this year’s edition of the tournament, with Naamo closing out the group stage by turning out against Nordic rivals, Denmark.

Finland’s efforts to qualify for the 2027 finals in Albania and Serbia begin with a match-up with San Marino, winless in 40, at the Veritas Stadion. A 2,000-mile trip east to Larnaca, Cyprus, follows for our number 22 and his colleagues on Matchday Two.

Kosovo, Spain and Romania join Mika Lehkosuo’s side in Group A.

MILLER THOMSON | SCOTLAND U21

Miller Thomson has accepted his fourth call-up to Scott Gemmill’s squad for the opening matches of their UEFA Under-21 European Championship campaign.

The versatile Academy graduate was utilised by Jim Goodwin for our opening two matches of the 2025/26 William Hill Premiership, whilst he also injected energy and attacking intent into United’s extra-time exploits against SK Rapid Wien in the UEFA Conference League.

The Young Team’s last venture into the finals came almost three decades ago, when budding United duo Steven Pressely and Christian Dailly helped Scotland to a fourth-placed finish behind Euro giants Italy, Spain and France in 1996.

The side also included Charlie Miller, Stephen Crawford, Derek Stillie and Jim Hamilton, who would all go on to wear tangerine throughout their careers, as well as future coaching duo Simon Donnelly and Jackie McNamara.

Back in the present day, Thomson and Scotland kick-off Group B in the Czech Republic on Friday. Fir Park then plays host to Scotland’s second tie as Portugal pitch up in Lanarkshire.

RUAIRIDH ADAMS | SCOTLAND U21

Budding shot-stopper Ruairidh Adams joins fellow homegrown talent Thomson in the Scotland U21s squad.

The Edinburgh native has made a strong start to life on loan at Bayview - yet to taste defeat after three outings. Since his arrival, East Fife have defeated Hamilton Academical and Kelty Hearts, where Adams spent the first half of last season.

Despite his youth, he already boasts 76 senior appearances to his name after numerous temporary stints across the SPFL Pyramid.

Back in March, the 21-year-old marked his international debut with a stop befitting of the occasion. With the clock ticking towards the 90th minute, Adams held his nerve to deny Republic of Ireland star Joe Gardiner from 12-yards and preserve his clean sheet.

SAM CLEALL-HARDING | SCOTLAND U21

Sam Cleall-Harding completes the trio of tartan Terrors set to represent Scotland against Czechia and Portugal this month.

His inclusion continues a meteoric rise for the Dundee-born star, who put pen-to-paper on a new deal with his boyhood club at the beginning of the year.

He played an instrumental role in United’s quest to secure a European adventure, deputising for fellow Academy graduate Ross Graham at the business end of the season.

Thrust into the starting XI for his United bow on 15 minutes’ notice, Cleall-Harding showed maturity beyond his years to shutout an in-form Heart of Midlothian frontline. Furthermore, a terrific first-half header at Ibrox proved pivotal on the final day, with United pipping New Firm rivals Aberdeen to fourth place on goal difference.

2025 has also brought his international breakthrough. Initially included in the Under-19s squad, the defender shone in a friendly against Sweden, and earned a promotion into Gemmill’s group for their clash with the Republic of Ireland in March.

Arabs can keep a keen eye on the emerging generation of tangerine talent by taking a trip through to Motherwell on Tuesday 9 September. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions or free if you hold Scotland Supporters Club membership.

SCOTT CONSTABLE | SCOTLAND U19s

Having earned five caps for the Under-17s, Scott Constable is ready to make the step up to the next level of youth internationals after being selected for Scotland U19s’ Slovenia Cup Squad.

The industrious right-back was one of a swathe of youngsters to admirably hold the fort in the aforementioned UEFA Conference League Third Qualifying Round second leg, as he entered the fray with five minutes to play at the end of a breathless period of extra-time.

Our second-youngest ever player will travel to Krakjska Gora on the Austro-Italian border as Neil MacFarlane’s tartan teens ramp up preparations for next summer’s UEFA Under-19 European Championship Qualifiers.

The tournament, which begins on Wednesday afternoon, sees Scotland pitted against hosts Slovenia, Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates.
