ASHLEY MAYNARD-BREWER | A POSITIVE RESULT WOULD GET US BACK ON TRACK

Dundee United goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer spoke to the broadcast media to preview our William Hill Premiership clash with Aberdeen on Matchday 26.

The Australian shot-stopper reflected on his start to life in the City of Discovery, outlined his ambitions for the forthcoming weeks and gave his pre-match thoughts ahead of tomorrow evening’s New Firm action.

ON HIS FIRST FEW WEEKS IN TANGERINE

It’s definitely been an eventful few weeks, but I think it’s helped just coming straight into games and being part of the team. 

I suppose before the Hearts game, I wanted my debut to be a positive result and a positive performance and we found ourselves two goals down with 10 men quite early on and that was pretty tough. 

But personally, after not playing for a while, it was just about controlling what I could control and looking at my performance. Then the Hibs game was, I thought as a team, we performed really well. 

There were definitely some positives to take from that performance, it was just frustrating to concede two set pieces of goals late on.

I’ve really enjoyed the training over the last few weeks and I’ve got to know my teammates quite well over the short period of time, so I’ve really been enjoying it and I’m feeling more settled.

ON TAKING THE NUMBER ONE JERSEY

When I spoke to the manager and the goalie coach, the intention was to come here and play - it was a show of faith from the manager for me to come straight into that Hearts game. 

I’m really looking forward to the next few weeks - we have a busy schedule coming up. Getting a few strong performances in and good cup run is the most important thing and we’ll see where that takes us.

ON THE POTENTIAL IMPLICATIONS OF A POSITIVE RESULT AGAINST THE DONS

It would put us in a better place. I think from what I’ve seen over the last week or two, the training standards have been really high and the performance at Hibs, I thought, we definitely deserved something. 

A positive result against Aberdeen would just get us back on track.
