Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing of Idjessi Metsoko from Chance Liga side Viktoria Plzen on a season-long loan deal.

The deal, which is subject to the completion of a work permit and both SFA and international clearance, includes an option to buy.

Metsoko arrives in Scotland, following successive loans at two of Slovakia’s biggest sides, eager to impress in his first stint away from mainland Europe.

A product of Auxerre’s academy in France, Metsoko penned his first professional contract with Czech side MFK Vyškov in July 2023.

This proved to be a breakout season for young striker, as he would go on to net nine goals in 16 appearances in the Czech National Football League.

This impressive form caught the attention of Viktoria Plzen in Febuary 2024, who tied him down to a three-year deal running through to the summer of 2027.

Slovakian giants Slovan Bratislava swooped to bring Metsoko in the summer of 2024, and he would go on to play a key role in helping the club reach to UEFA Champions League Group Phase for the first time in the club’s history.

Featuring in pivotal play-off round matches against FC Midtjylland, Metsoko netted his first Champions League goal in a 3-1 loss to VfB Stuttgart in January 2025.

The 24-year-old would then head to fellow Slovakian side Spartak Trnava on a season-long loan.

Metsoko made his debut in November 2025 and would get off to a fast start, with three goals in his first four games helping Trnava recover from a poor start.

The 6ft, 3in forward also made his debut for the Togo national team in March 2026 in a friendly against Guinea where he would also grab his maiden international goal via a late penalty.

Now heading to Scotland, Metsoko linked up with his new teammates this morning as we build up to the Premier Sports Cup campaign beginning next weekend.

A NEW FRONT MAN

After securing another forward to compliment his attacking options, Jim Goodwin spoke of his delight in attaining Idjessi’s services.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be able to bring Idjessi to the club and can’t wait to get to work with him,” Goodwin said.

“He’s a powerful, explosive forward with great feet for a striker and quick across the ground, so he possesses all the attributes we felt we needed when looking for another forward.

“He’s had a great last couple of years, scoring in the Champions League and also scoring on his international debut and we feel he’s heading to Scotland ready to build on the groundwork he’s laid.

“We’re excited to work with Idjessi and hopefully give him the platform to kick-on and continue progressing.”

A NEW ENVIRONMENT  

Metsoko added: “I’m delighted to get everything sorted and become a Dundee United player.

“Since leaving France, I’ve played in the Czech and Slovakian League and enjoyed my time, however it has always been a dream of mine to play in the UK and I’m looking forward to the new challenge.

“The opportunity to work under the manager and coaching staff in the Scottish Premiership really appealed to me and I can’t wait to meet the lads and try and help the team have a real successful season.”

“I’ve seen the stadium today and it’s amazing! I can’t wait to play in front of all the fans and hopefully score lots of goals!”
