United welcomed Falkirk to The CalForth Construction Arena looking to bounce back from the midweek defeat at Fir Park, with the visitors similarly seeking a response following their loss to Rangers.
Lee Sharpe made three changes to the starting XI, with Kevin Ciubotaru, Dylan Tait and Lyall Cameron coming in, the latter making his United debut. New signing Zidane Iqbal was named among the substitutes. Falkirk, meanwhile, made just one change from their midweek line-up.
The match started in the worst possible fashion from a United perspective, as Falkirk found an early opener from a Ryan Strain corner. The former United man picked out Jacob Murrell, who powered a header beyond Jack Walton after just four minutes.
The visitors continued to press high and looked to add a second, with Strain almost turning goalscorer when his effort flashed into Walton’s side-netting from the right-hand side.

United were forced into an early change after Medhi Merghem, having picked up a knock earlier in the half, was replaced by Jesse Randall in the 18th minute.
The Terrors had their first real effort on goal moments later when Ciubotaru fired a wicked low strike towards the bottom-left corner, forcing Scott Bain into a save.
United gradually began to grow into the contest after the early setback. Shortly before the half-hour mark, Tait stood up an excellent cross from the right-hand side towards Sapsford at the back post, but the Australian was unable to make contact, with the goal at his mercy.
Falkirk still carried a threat of their own, with Eames going close to adding a second after the ball broke kindly to him on the left side of the box, only for his effort to be blocked behind for a corner.
United came to life again as half-time approached. Randall did brilliantly to drive down the left-hand side and beat his man before seeing his low cross blocked behind.

In first-half stoppage time, debutant Cameron had two excellent opportunities to draw United level. His first effort from the left side of the box was blocked behind for a corner. After another corner came, the ball eventually fell to Cameron on the edge of the box, but his volley was well saved by Bain.
Falkirk had undoubtedly enjoyed the better of the opening 20 minutes, but United grew strongly into the contest and finished the half on top, albeit still trailing by a goal.
HT – Dundee United 0–1 Falkirk
United started the second half as they had finished the first, with Tait seeing an effort from the left side of the box drift beyond Bain’s right post within minutes of the restart.

With 51 minutes played, Camara and Randall linked up on the right side of the area, with the New Zealander dinked a cross towards Bennie at the far post. His downward header, however, was dealt with by Bain.
Five minutes later, United looked to have a breakaway as Sapsford appeared to get in front of Henderson onto a ball in behind, but the striker was penalised after his high boot caught the Falkirk defender.

United then made a double change, with Bennie and Camara replaced by Lachlan Rose and, making his United debut, Zidane Iqbal.
The Terrors continued to push forward. Randall saw an effort saved at the near post by Bain before appealing for a penalty after going down in the area following the lunge by Krauhaus which caught the New Zealand international on the top of the right boot. However, referee Dan McFarlane quickly waved away the protests. Following a quick VAR check, the decision stood.
Rose was then shown a yellow card following a late challenge on a Falkirk defender. United made two further changes as Sapsford and Cameron made way for Neil Farrugia and Abdoulaye Yoro.
Iqbal almost introduced himself to the United support in perfect fashion when his effort from the left-hand side of the box forced Bain into a save towards his top-right corner. From the resulting corner, Forbes flicked a header towards Rose at the back post, but his scissor-kick volley flew narrowly over the bar from close range.
Falkirk had absorbed the pressure well for much of the contest, repeatedly frustrating United as the hosts searched for an equaliser.
Tait saw another effort inside the area saved by Bain before linking up with Farrugia out wide. The winger worked his way into the box and fired on goal, but again Bain was equal to it turning the ball behind for a corner.
As the clock hit 90 minutes, it looked as though Falkirk were set to leave Tannadice with all three points. With four minutes of added time indicated, however, United threw everything forward and finally found their reward.

Yoro clipped an excellent cross into the area and Michael Forbes rose highest to power a header beyond Bain, sparking huge celebrations among the home support, securing a deserved equaliser.
The referee brought an end to a frantic contest shortly afterwards, with United having recovered from an early setback and, on the balance of their second-half pressure, perhaps unfortunate not to have taken all three points.
