Scottish football is going back to the future with the return of the official SPFL Tennent’s Sixes – and two former Terrors have been confirmed as the first members of Dundee United’s squad.
The iconic six-a-side tournament, which captured the imagination of Scottish football supporters throughout the 1980s and ’90s, returns to Braehead Arena on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October with the official backing of the SPFL.
All 12 Premiership clubs have signed up for the legends tournament, with heroes of the past set to pull on their clubs’ current kits once again.
Dundee United have been drawn in Group B alongside Aberdeen, St Johnstone and city rivals Dundee – and Prince Buaben and Craig Easton are the first two names confirmed in the Terrors’ squad.
PRINCE BUABEN
2007–11, 142 appearances, 11 goals
Born in Akosombo, Ghana, Prince Buaben developed within Ajax’s renowned youth system before joining Dundee United in July 2007 after impressing then-manager Craig Levein on trial.
The midfielder quickly established himself as a popular figure among the United support, forming a memorable partnership with Morgaro Gomis in the middle of the park.
Buaben made 142 appearances and scored 11 goals across four seasons in tangerine. The highlight of his time at the club came in May 2010, when he played the full 90 minutes as United defeated Ross County 3-0 at Hampden Park to lift the Scottish Cup.
After leaving United in 2011, Buaben joined Watford and later represented Carlisle United, Partick Thistle, Hearts, Falkirk and Romanian side Pandurii Târgu Jiu.

CRAIG EASTON
1996–2004, 259 appearances, 17 goals
Born in Bellshill, Craig Easton joined Dundee United’s youth ranks in 1995 before making his first-team debut during the 1996/97 season.
The midfielder established himself as a regular in the United side and went on to make 259 appearances across eight seasons in tangerine, scoring 17 goals.
Easton’s most productive campaign came in 2000/01, when he found the net six times in 39 appearances. He also represented Scotland at Under-21 level during his time with the club.
After leaving United in 2004, Easton continued his career with Livingston, Leyton Orient, Swindon Town, Southend United, Dunfermline Athletic and Torquay United before moving into coaching.

Further members of Dundee United’s Tennent’s Sixes squad will be revealed in the weeks ahead.
The tournament begins with three regionalised groups of four on Saturday. Each group winner and runner-up will progress to the knockout stages alongside the two best third-placed teams.
Every match will have a winner, with a bonus point awarded for a penalty shootout victory if the scores are level. The famous sin bin will also make its return as the competition combines nostalgia with a modern twist.
Tickets and further information are available via the official SPFL Tennent’s Sixes website.
