Morgaro Gomis and Paul Dixon are the latest former Terrors confirmed for Dundee United’s squad ahead of the return of the official SPFL Tennent’s Sixes.

The iconic six-a-side tournament, which captured the imagination of Scottish football supporters throughout the 1980s and ’90s, returns to Braehead Arena on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October with the official backing of the SPFL.

All 12 Premiership clubs will take part in the legends tournament, with former favourites pulling on their clubs’ current kits once again.

Gomis and Dixon join Prince Buaben and Craig Easton in the United squad, with further names set to be announced ahead of next month’s tournament.

MORGARO GOMIS

2007–11, 2013–14 and 2019, 209 appearances, seven goals

Born in Le Blanc-Mesnil, France, Morgaro Gomis became Craig Levein’s first signing as Dundee United manager when he joined from Cowdenbeath in January 2007.

The determined defensive midfielder quickly established himself as a first-team regular and became a firm favourite among the United support. He collected a runners-up medal in the 2008 League Cup final before playing the full 90 minutes as the Terrors defeated Ross County 3-0 to lift the Scottish Cup in 2010.

His performances in tangerine also earned him international recognition with Senegal, for whom he made two appearances.

Gomis initially departed for Birmingham City in 2011 before returning to United in 2013 and again in 2019, becoming one of only a small number of players to represent the club across three separate spells. In total, he made 209 appearances and scored seven goals for the Terrors.

PAUL DIXON

2008–12 and 2015–17, 223 appearances, six goals

Born in Aberdeen, Paul Dixon came through the Dundee youth system before moving across Tannadice Street to join Dundee United in June 2008.

The left-back quickly established himself as a first-team regular, with his energetic performances and quality delivery helping United become consistent challengers for European qualification. His form also earned him a call-up to the senior Scotland squad, although injury denied him the opportunity to make his international debut while at the club.

Dixon played a huge part in the Terrors’ successful 2009/10 Scottish Cup campaign before an injury sustained in the semi-final ruled him out of the Hampden showpiece in May.

After four seasons in tangerine, Dixon joined Huddersfield Town in 2012 and earned his first Scotland cap later that year.

Dixon returned to the club in February 2015 and spent a further two-and-a-half seasons in tangerine. Across his two spells with United, he made 223 appearances and scored six goals.

United have been drawn in Group B alongside Aberdeen, St Johnstone and city rivals Dundee.

The tournament begins with three regionalised groups of four on Saturday. Each group winner and runner-up will progress to the knockout stages alongside the two best third-placed teams.

Every match will have a winner, with a bonus point awarded for a penalty shootout victory if the scores are level. The famous sin bin will also make its return as the competition combines nostalgia with a modern twist.
