Dundee United are thrilled to announce the signing of Dylan Tait upon the expiration of his contract with Falkirk, with the midfielder committing his future to the club until the summer of 2029, subject to SFA approval.

One of the brightest young midfield talents in Scottish football, Tait arrives at the CalForth Construction Arena following an impressive rise through the Scottish game.

After initially joining the Bairns on loan in January 2023, the midfielder developed into a driving force at the heart of Falkirk’s side, earning widespread plaudits for a string of consistently influential performances.

Beginning his youth career with Partick Thistle before continuing his development through the Fife Elite Football Academy, Tait first emerged as a highly-rated prospect at Raith Rovers under the guidance of current Falkirk manager John McGlynn.

Handed his professional debut as a teenager, the midfielder quickly impressed with his composure in possession, technical quality and maturity beyond his years, helping Raith secure promotion to the Scottish Championship.

His performances in Kirkcaldy earned significant attention across the Scottish game and prompted a move to Hibernian in 2021, where he penned a long-term contract at Easter Road.

During his time with the Edinburgh side, Tait continued his development through loan spells with Raith Rovers, Kilmarnock, Arbroath and Hamilton Academical, gaining valuable experience across multiple levels of Scottish football.

A further loan move, this time to Falkirk in January 2023 proved a turning point in his career. Reuniting with John McGlynn, Tait quickly became a key figure in midfield as the Bairns stormed to the Scottish League One title unbeaten.

Following a permanent return to Falkirk the subsequent summer, the midfielder continued his upward trajectory by helping guide the club to back-to-back promotions, playing a pivotal role in their Championship title-winning campaign before helping secure a top-six Premiership finish last term.

Across his spell with the Bairns, Tait made more than 100 appearances and established himself as one of the most consistent midfield performers in Scottish football.

A PERFECT FIT

After securing his latest addition of the summer window, Dundee United Manager Jim Goodwin expressed his delight, saying:

“Dylan is a player we’ve admired for a long time and somebody we believe is perfectly suited to the way we want to play.

“There was significant interest in Dylan from elsewhere, so we’re naturally delighted he’s chosen Dundee United for the next stage of his career.

“He’s technically excellent, progressive in possession and very comfortable receiving the ball in all areas of the pitch. His passing range and intelligence allow him to influence games in different ways, whether that’s controlling the tempo or opening teams up in the final third.

“What’s impressed us most is the consistency he’s shown over a number of seasons. Dylan played an important role in Falkirk’s invincible League One title success, followed that up by helping the club win the Championship and then backed it up again by contributing to a top-six finish in the Premiership.

“At 24, there’s still significant room for development and we believe Dundee United is the perfect environment for him to continue progressing.”

READY FOR THE NEXT STEP

Tait added: “I’m delighted to get everything completed and become a Dundee United player.

“As soon as I heard about the interest from the club, it was something I was really excited about. Dundee United is a massive club with a rich history and of course such a passionate fanbase, so it was an opportunity I really wanted to take.

“The chance to play at Tannadice and test myself in a new environment under the manager and coaching staff here really appealed to me.

“I’m hungry to keep improving, working hard every day and hopefully creating some great memories with the supporters over the next few years.”
