Dundee United produced a dominant performance, recording a 4-0 victory in a clash with The Spartans in the final Premier Sports Cup Group B fixture at The CalForth Construction Arena.
A first-half strike from Lachlan Rose gave Jim Goodwin's side a deserved advantage before the striker added his second shortly after the hour mark. Captain Dylan Tait was rewarded for another influential display with a fine third goal; his first for the club, while Zac Sapsford rounded off the evening with a late volley as the Tangerines signed off their group-stage campaign.
With qualification still dependent on results elsewhere this weekend, the focus was firmly on taking care of business. The Terror's settling quickly and dominated possession throughout the opening exchanges. Michael Forbes glanced Julius Eskesen's corner narrowly wide before Tait came closest to breaking the deadlock on 21 minutes, crashing a powerful effort against the post after Will Ferry's delivery had been worked back into his path.
The breakthrough arrived five minutes later, aggressive running by Sapsford down the right led to Dario Naamo darting into the box and cutting back to assist Lachlan Rose. The Australian striker showed excellent composure inside the penalty area, spinning away from his marker before rifling an unstoppable finish into the roof of the net.
The second goal arrived on 64 minutes. Jesse Randall, a constant creative threat throughout the evening, delivered an inviting low cross from the left and Rose was perfectly placed to slide home the finish from close range and register his second goal of the night.
Rose almost completed his hat-trick moments later before Martin produced another excellent save to deny Vicko Ševelj from distance as United continued to dominate.
The third goal finally arrived on 73 minutes and was no more than the hosts deserved. Tait, who controlled the tempo throughout from midfield, collected possession on the edge of the area before calmly side-footing an excellent finish beyond Martin to cap another commanding performance.
The manager continued to rotate his squad in the closing stages, handing a senior debut to 15-year-old Lorenzo Sassetti, who immediately caught the eye with a pair of confident runs down the left flank.
The Terrors completed the scoring in the final minute when substitute Cohen Leiper's exquisite deep delivery from the right into the area for Zac Sapsford to stride onto. The Australian forward made no mistake, volleying home from six yards to crown another impressive display and seal the win.
