FEMALE PLAYER PATHWAY IN PLACE AS NINE U-9S SIGN FOR THE CLUB

27th October 2019

It was a special occasion as Dundee United Community Trust held a signing night for young girls this week.

Nine girls in the Under-9 category signed for Dundee United to represent the Club and train regularly. Many of the girls had participated previously with the Dundee United Community Trust whether that be in Junior Academy, Girls’ Soccer Centres or one of the other many session. This has meant many have transitioned from these recreational sessions into a team environment which is great for their development at a young age. Some of the others are beginners having started playing football through the creation of this team.

Dundee United Community Trust Women’s Development Officer Georgia Carter gave a presentation for the girls and their parents, setting out the Club’s main objectives with Neve Guthrie and Chloe Robertson in attendance to share their experiences and sign autographs.

Georgia Carter said: “It’s great to see the girls’ game developing so quickly here at Dundee United! The new intake of Under- 9s is the first step in the creation of a female player pathway from Under-9s up to the Dundee United Women’s Team. The girls will now have access to regular training and chances to compete as Dundee United against other local clubs in football festivals. The feed back from our signing night has been tremendous and we have had six girls sign up for a trial with the team since!

“The platform the Women’s team have set through their success is playing a big role. All at Dundee United Women’s Team should be commended for their hard work this season and the Under-9s really look at every single one of them as role models.

“As a community trust we aim to grow and develop football opportunities for girls in the local area. We also have our brand new Under 11s Girls Football Team Joining the Girls’ Academy during the month of November! It is a very exciting time for girls’ football at Dundee United.

“This is only the start, however the hard work behind the scenes to make this happen has been phenomenal. All at Dundee United Community Trust are great at supporting me within my role and this wouldn’t have been possible without every single one of them!”
