STEVEN FLETCHER PENS A TWO-YEAR DEAL

7th July 2022

Dundee United are delighted to announce the signing, subject to clearance, of international striker Steven Fletcher who joins the club on a two-year deal.

Our new number 9 burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old at Hibernian, scoring his first professional goal in October 2004 as he established himself at Easter Road. He would go on to score two in Hibs’ 2007 CIS Cup Final triumph over Kilmarnock before being named the SFWA Young Player of the Year two years running.

The frontman then sealed a move to Premier League outfit Burnley before enjoying spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and latterly Stoke City, where he made 35 appearances last season. Steven also experienced Ligue 1 in France during a loan period at Marseille in 2016 where he helped them reach the Coupe De France final.

The 35-year-old, who has featured 33 times for the Scottish national team, finding the net on ten occasions, has scored over 250 goals in his career so far. He moves to Tannadice as part of the squad that will take United into European action for the first time in ten years.

Jack Ross expressed his delight with the signing saying, “To bring a player of his experience will be a big asset both on and off the pitch. The level of quality he has shown thoughout his career makes him a really exciting addition, and we are really looking forward to getting down to work.”

Sporting Director Tony Asghar said, “I am delighted to secure Steven's signature. He is a player we have tracked for a while and to attract a player of his calibre and experience is exciting for the Club.

"Steven has a proven track record in the Premier league, Championship and on the international arena and he will help us continue to drive Dundee United forward.”
