Adam took charge of the reserve side for one match last season and will be looking to build momentum for the reserve league season.

"The biggest learning experience for the group last year was game management and learning how to perform in cup football," said Adam.

"We lost a man early on in the game against Stenhousemuir through a red card and weren’t aggressive enough at set pieces.

"All that matters for the young players’ development in this tournament is winning and finding a way to win. This is what makes it exciting for our young boys who are used to playing development games."

Adam also believes that being in and around the first team environment since the beginning of last season has given him a platform to continue his success with the B side.

He added: "Tactically, we will follow the gaffer's principles in and out of possession.

"Our numbers will be tight as the first team schedule is busy with the AZ Alkmaar game on Thursday but it will give some of our U18 players their first experience of senior football.

"The benefit the club gain from being involved in competitive football is massive for the development of our players. We also have the ability to monitor and assess player development.

"The players now have a platform to go and impress the manager in games and prove they are ready to step up to play for the first team."

Adam also gave an update on the squad fans can expect to see over the course of the season.

"The team will be predominantly made up of our best young players in and around the first team, players out on loan and some of our well-performing U18 players.

"It also gives us the chance to provide minutes to some senior players who may have missed out on game time. The reserve league platform allows players to push back into the manager's thoughts."
