UNITED FAIL TO BREAK SAINTS

27th April 2002

United missed an opportunity to guarantee themselves eighth position this afternoon when they played out a very end of season 0-0 in front of a disappointing attendance of 5,190.

With top scorer Steven Thompson injured, Stephen McConalogue partnered Derek Lilley in attack in an otherwise unchanged starting eleven from the side that defeated Dundee last weekend.

The match threw up a typically end of season match which was disappointing in that United had much to play for. Over the piece, United dominated territorially however they rarely created scoring opportunities of note.

Results involving the Tangerines, Dundee and Kilmarnock meant that only a win by five goals at Rugby Park in a fortnight offers any hope of United finishing in seventh position while anything other than a win against Jim Jeffries side could let Dundee overtake the Tannadice Club.
