CARLOS THE CREATOR

3rd October 2000

Carlos Marcora, who notched 7 goals in 20 appearances for the national team since his debut in 1998 and was described as the "Orchestra" of the Uruguayan national side, turned out for the United Under-21 team on Monday night with a performance which showed he could have a vital creative role to play for the Tangerines in midfield.

An accomplished and thoughtful distributer of the ball, Marcora also has a reputation as a free-kick expert. He began his career with River Plate in Argentina and has also played for Tigres FC in Mexico. "Carlos is a very talented player who gives us another strong option in midfield", said Manager Alex Smith. "He is a thoughtful player and a good passer of the ball. We've been looking for a good attacking midfield player who can create chances for us - and Carlos is that type of player."
