Dev League: United 2 Hearts 3

10th October 2017

The Young Terrors were defeated by a late goal in tonight's hard fought Tannadice encounter.

Hearts almost took the lead within seconds of the start, the United keeper touching an Aidan Keena drive on to the bar. Thereafter play ebbed and flowed but defences dominated.

Two minutes from the interval, the visitors did get the ball in the net but Euan Henderson who supplied the finish was ruled offside.

Almost immediately after the restart United broke the deadlock, Scott Allardice netting with a first time effort from fully 30 yards.

On the hour mark Hearts levelled when Rory Curry crashed a shot on the turn into the top corner after United failed to clear their lines following a corner.

With just over 20 minutes left, United went ahead with another spectacular strike.

Gav Ritchie’s floated cross was headed down by Joe Piggott and Matty Smith buried a ferocious volley from 15 yards into the bottom right-hand corner.

But with 15 minutes left the Maroons were back on level terms when substitute McDonald was clean through and slipped the ball under the keeper.

And Hearts had the last word with Malaury Martin heading an 89th minute winner.
