ALL SQUARE AT TANNADICE

25th August 2002

Alex Smith changed his team selection from the side that lost to Celtic last weekend bringing in Derek Lilley from the start as well as giving Allan Smart a starting berth. On the bench were new signings Warren Cummings, Icelandic star Arnar Gunnlaugsson who was returning from injury and Charlie Miller who was to settle for a place on the bench.

United were stunned within the first three minutes of the match when Motherwell took the lead through Stephen Pearson and the Tangerines toiled in general throughout the first half.

At the start of the second half, Smith brought on Charlie Miller and Warren Cummings for Derek Lilley and Jamie McCunnie and it had an immediate impact with Jim McIntyre equalising within a minute of the second period commencing. United played much better after the break and Stephen Thompson had three excellent chances to win the match but couldn't convert any of them, hitting a post in the process.

United, wearing their green change strip, will feel they could have won the match and will be disappointed at only taking a point.
