Right on cue, the sun came out and stayed out for the entire three and a half hours of the 2002 Dundee United Open Day which was held at Tannadice Park yesterday. It has become a feature of this annual United event that the weather is often not just fair but is usually superb and Sunday's tangerine extravaganza was no exception.
The doors opened at noon and by 1.30pm around three and a half thousand people were in and around the environs of the stadium, entertained by a combination of, out on a pitch which was looking excellent, the Wave 102 roadshow and the United first team squad going through a practice match and on the George Fox Stand lower concourse, a wide range of activities. Along with the usual stalls, on show was the new Bank of Scotland replica trophy and a stall featuring programmes throughout the years. Following the training session, the players posed for photographs and signed autographs while the United souvenir shop contained within the George Fox concourse reported excellent levels of business, especially with the new green away kit and the black Centenary strip.
The event was run in association with the Dundee United Business Club with all proceeds going to the Young Lions and Young Arabs project. In the end, literally a year of planning came to fruition with another superb United style family day out.
