CUMMINGS AND GOINGS

23rd August 2002

The Club today confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Warren Cummings from Chelsea FC on a one-year loan deal. A pleased Manager Alex Smith stated in a press conference held this afternoon at Tannadice: "I have been interested in Warren for some time and I am delighted to finally have acquired his services. He played ten matches in my Under-21 international team where he was outstanding on every occasion. He has been with Chelsea for most of his professional life and recently was on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth. He is a versatile left full back who can also play left centre back or anywhere on the left hand side of the pitch which gives us added tactical options and more balance. At the end of the season we'll sit down together and if he has done as well as we think he will, we will seek to enlist him on a permanent basis. By the same token, if he has impressed that much, Chelsea will probably want him back - so it is an advantageous deal for all parties - not least the player who will enhance his chances of a regular starting berth in Berti Vogts's selection, where he has already figured versus Hong Kong."

Tannadice today also confirmed that Stephen McConalogue would join Clyde on loan until the end of the 2002-2003.
