UNDER-21s IMPRESS WITH FINE WIN

5th May 2003

In an eventful first half United were marginally the better side and lead through a headed Ogunmade effort in the seventeenth minute. The referee had to be replaced with 25 minutes played when he twisted an ankle and a few minutes later Jarvie made a first class save from a net bound Offiong effort.

The second half was fast paced but a bit scrappy to begin with and untidiness was evident in the 'Well defence when United's second goal of the night was tapped into his own net by Kinniburgh. Not so with the third scored by Conway who ran half the length of the pitch, beat two defenders then fired a shot across the keeper. Motherwell pulled one back when Jarvie dropped the ball and Scott beat McCunnie to prod home.

Whilst the whole team performed well as a unit, Chiarini played exceptionally well at the back and Ogunmade and Conway were a constant threat to the visitors' defence.
