HOME TIE WITH AIRDRIE IN CIS CUP

24th August 2000

United were rewarded for their CIS Cup win at Alloa with a home tie against Airdrie when the Third Round Draw was made in Glasgow on Thursday.

The Diamonds will come to Tannadice on Tuesday, 5th September 2000, and Manager Alex Smith is looking forward to pitting his team against Steve Archibald's new look side. "The main thing is that we have been drawn at home and that is all you can ask in the Cup," he said. "I haven't seen them this season, so we will have to get them watched. I do not know much about them, but it should be an interesting tie."

Looking ahead to Saturday and the League clash at Dunfermline, Alex revealed midfielder Jim Paterson and winger Neil Heaney were fit again after injury and would be in his thoughts. Also returning to the squad will be Steven Thompson and Craig Easton, both of whom missed the Alloa match through suspension.
