JERRY KERR HONOURED

31st July 2003

A crowd of nearly 7000 and a host of former players turned up at
Tannadice on Wednesday evening to honour the memory of former United manager Jerry Kerr.

At half-time during the match against Everton and in front of his
immediate family, a ceremony took place to name the Main Stand the Jerry Kerr Stand. United Chairman Eddie Thompson then presented Mr Kerr's family with a special commemorative gift to mark the occasion.

Additionally, representatives from the Federation of Dundee United
Supporters' Clubs, who had made the original request to name the stand after Jerry Kerr, donated a trophy to be retained within the Tannadice boardroom.

It really was a trip down memory lane with players from the Jerry Kerr era being presented to the supporters. The former players included: Jimmy Briggs, Hamish McAlpine, Andy Rolland, Jimmy Miller, Doug Smith, Walter Smith, Frank Munro and Jim Henry.

Derek Robertson, a United Director said, "A lot of people put a huge
amount of effort into organising this event and I would like to thank
them on behalf of the Club. It was a superb evening and I am delighted for the Kerr family that such a great crowd turned up for the occasion. The Club owes so much to Jerry Kerr and it is appropriate that his memory lives on through the naming of the stand."
