LATE GOAL DENIES UNDER-19s A WIN AT KILMARNOCK

27th September 2003

Dundee United's Under-19 players made the long journey to meet Kilmarnock this morning at Auchincruivie Agricultural College.

In an entertaining, high scoring match the sides shared six goals with the home side opening their account in the first half. The young Tangerines equalised through Steven Craig via the penalty spot but despite being reduced to ten men Kilmarnock scored again to lead 2-1 at half time.

In the second half United were the better side and dominated for long periods and it was no surprise when Nicky McDonald netted the equaliser and then went in front when Steven Bell scored. United were well in command but a late slip handed the home side possession and they raced upfield to score through an unfortunate Steven Anderson own goal.

After the match coach Tony Docherty said, "It's becoming a bit repetitive but it's the same story as it has been so often this season. We lost when we were the better side. It was all down to losing possession at 3-2 up with only minutes left."
