UNITED CLIMB TO SEVENTH

27th December 2003

United made the long trip to Kilmarnock today and scored a goal in each half to grab all three points and move up three places in the league to seventh. There were two changes from the eleven who started on Tuesday evening against Partick Thistle, with Jim Paterson and Barry Robson fielded in place of Danny Griffin and Charlie Miller, both of whom were on the bench.

The first half was short on goal scoring chances for both sides and
Gallacher in the United goal had no direct shots to deal with at all. At the other end the Tangerines made the best of their first real
opportunity when Dodds (pictured) pounced to score mid way through the first period, when the Killie defence failed to deal with a Robson free-kick from the right.

The Rugby Park side had the better of the early stages in the second
period and United lived dangerously on more than one occasion but the
home side were unable to capitalise. Around ten minutes from the end
Scotland burst forward but was brought down by the chasing defender, Fulton and the referee awarded a penalty, which McIntyre coolly chipped into the net to leave Kilmarnock no way back.

Gallacher, Wilson, McCracken, Archibald, Kerr (Griffin 80), McInnes,
Robson, J Paterson (Duff 72), McLaren (Scotland 55), Dodds, McIntyre.

Subs Not Used: Jarvie, Miller.
