The Youth side travelled to meet Partick Thistle at St Anthony's ground and came away with a single goal victory despite intense pressure on the home defence throughout almost the entire ninety minutes which could have resulted in a win by a much bigger margin.
A number of good chances were created and Joe Andrew had the best of these before David Robertson headed home a Barry Callaghan corner at the front post just on the half hour mark. In the second half United continued to run the show but as in the first half they found the Jags defence hard to get past and Montgomery in goal had a particularly good afternoon. Aaron Conway will be cursing his luck after the keeper denied him three times. Steven Bell and Garry Kenneth were also out of luck and David Goodwillie, who made his Youth debut last week and received praise from the coaching staff, was introduced for the last half hour and he too had a good chance to put a truer reflection on the score line. But it ended with a single goal win and three points in the bag.
After the match coach Tony Docherty commented "I was pleased with the win as it means we have gone on a run of three winning games after we beat both Dundee and Dunfermline recently. Defensively we were sound against Partick today getting a clean sheet. We created a lot of chances but I'm disappointed we never put a few more away. A four or five goal win would not have flattered us and their keeper had a handful of wonder saves."
